Xarelto®

WHAT IS XARELTO?

Xarelto is a popular drug used to treat or prevent blood clots which can present in legs and/or lungs. Xarelto is specifically prescribed in people diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (heart rhythm disorder)  to lower the risk of stroke caused by clotting.

WHAT ARE THE MAJOR INJURIES?

One of the most dangerous side effects of Xarelto is that it can cause the patient to bleed more easily if there is a pre-existing condition of a bleeding disorder, hemorrhagic stroke or above average blood pressure. In addition to excess bleeding, Xarelto can cause abnormal liver function, reduced platelet levels as well as numbness of the muscles.

Johnson & Johnson and Bayer are the primary manufactures of this drug, and the named defendants in the multidistrict litigation regarding the harmful side effects to consumers. Both Bayer and Johnson & Johnson are sharing the $775 million settlement equally.
